Bradley Sonnenberg Remote Reading Program

The Bradley Sonnenberg Remote Reading Program, founded in loving memory of Bradley Sonnenberg, is a literacy and mentorship program for our K-6th grade scholars. Each scholar is paired with a high school student volunteer or college student and together they set up a time each week to read a designated book on Zoom. They read through the book page by page together, pausing regularly to define new vocabulary, check in with comprehension, and talk about themes. The program runs from August 31st, 2026, to May 21st, 2027.
Through these experiences, students are able to further their relationships and continue growing their reading skills. A group of teen mentors also created a female empowerment book club in which mentor-mentee pairs read and discuss books with strong female characters and the power of women. Mentor-mentee pairs also attend events together every other month. The events include field trips, community service or social justice projects, and literacy events.

Literacy and Math Classes
For the 2026-2027 school year, we will be holding virtual literacy and math classes for our K-8 scholars via Zoom. Classes meet once per week from September 2026 to December 2026. Classes will be led by our Literacy Leaders (LLs), our motivated and energetic college-aged teachers who serve not only as teachers, but also as role models to our scholars!
Our classes have a low student-to-teacher ratio to ensure all students get more individualized instruction than is possible in public schools. Additionally, our curriculum includes age-appropriate games, book activities, comprehension checks, discussions, and more!
Please check back later for our Weekly Class Schedule.
